Azlan, Sky & Gibson

Nice-sofaHi, I was just looking at the EGLR website and thought I'd like to send in an update on my 2 ELGR lurchers.

I already had one saluki lurcher from Margaret at South Gloucs Lurcher & Greyhound rescue and felt I had come to the point where Gibson needed a long nosed friend, Margaret didn't have anything suitable so she directed me to Pip, this was in 2001.

Pip told me about a number of dogs and one I particularly liked the sound of was another saluki lurcher called Poppy.  So off I travelled from North Somerset to Pip's, met Poppy who I thought was lovely but then I saw a gorgeous blue smooth haired lurcher curled up on the sofa. I'm afraid it was love at first sight for me and consequently Poppy stayed with Pip and I brought Sky home.

Sky had had an appalling start in life in a scrap yard where she was violently abused and tortured, however she was rescued from there, rehabilitated by Pip and her wonderful team and eventually I took her on.  She was a very nervous little girl, but bit by bit when she realised that bad things weren't going to happen to her anymore, she started to come out of her shell and started to shine.  She will always be a nervous little girl, and follows me everywhere but she is much loved and is safe.

Sadly she was diagnosed with kidney disease a month ago, so she is on a specialist renal diet and that has helped, but I realise now that we are on borrowed time, which is heartbreaking, but she still enjoys her walks on the beach.

AssieAfter coming out of a bad relationship two years ago, I decided that there was room in my life for another long nose, despite still having my original two, so I gave Pip a call and she told me of a number of dogs she had in her care or fostered, but the one that really interested me was another saluki lurcher called Azlan, or to give him his full name Prince Azlan, he was a very special little chap as he'd been found ontop of a flat roof building screaming in pain, after, it was believe, either being thrown from a moving car, or being hit by one.  Pip and her team did everything they could for this little chap with a big personality, but in the end the leg could not be saved and had to be amputated.  However, it seems that no-one told Azzie that he has 3 legs, and he can outrun most 4 legged dogs on our walks!

AssiesBeachHe is the happiest dog I have ever met, he has the most wonderful personality and can make you laugh even on the darkest of days!   I then went on to meet a wonderful man, who I married and consequently moved down to North Devon and we live very close to the beach, which Azzie loves, as the sand is just perfect for him to run in and he will play with any dog he meets, it's his idea of heaven!

So thank you Pip and the team !!!!
