Hello this is Otis here, now living in the Shetland Islands. Yes....the Shetland Islands, but I have a lovely rough hairy coat that is keeping me warm during this cold, windy and snowy winter.
My new adoptive family live on an island called Unst, which is the most northerly of all the Shetland Islands. I have a lovely sandy beach here on Unst to dash around on, with my new “step Bro”, Slim. The beach is all smooth and picturesque until me and Slim arrive and then it’s all churned up “lurcher style”!, during our chasing and catch me if you can games!.It’s all very tiring having fun and when we get home from the beach we curl up or stretch out, whichever takes the mood, in our lovely padded dog beds and snoooooozee!.Sometimes I pretend to be hiding in my bed as it put my paw over my head whilst snoozing. There are loads of toys here at my new home to play with....yippee!. Slim’s not a ‘dog toy’ sort of lurcher, so I have them all to myself...cool!! Oh too many choices to pick from....squeaky ball, rubber ring or kong?
It was a long journey from Uncle EGRL Pete’s house to Unst, which included an overnight ferry crossing and then another 2 inter-island ferries across Shetland. Slim is a seasoned traveller, so he should me the ropes and it was all very exciting. Think I will consider myself as a worldly traveller from now on!. It was really sad leaving Uncle EGRL Pete’s house, but I had a great time whilst I was staying there and being in the care of Auntie Pip and her pack at EGRL. The EGRL are a very friendly, caring and understanding pack, who have given me the chance to find a new happy and secure future home. They are just as good with their human pack members as well , as they gave my adoptive Mum and Dad the chance to adopt me....fantastic!!!.It was great news to hear that some EGLR pals....Tudor and Storm have also found new homes....brill!!
I have been introduced to pig’s ears, tripe sticks, chewy hide sticks and raw carrots!!!....the latter being an acquired munch, I must say. However me and Slim don’t get snacks all the time as we have to watch out waistlines, so we can keep fit and healthy to charge around on the beach, as us lurchers do!.
It’s really good when its raining or snowing when we go out for walks as when we come in, we get towel rubs which I really, really love. I go back for seconds each time!!! Anyway I will sign my paws off for now, as I have lots of new people to meet, new places to visit and lots of new adventures with Slim to experience. Before I go, I would like to say a BIG, BIG thank you to Auntie Pip, Uncle Pete and all the EGLR pack for taking me in, looking after me and giving me and my adoptive family the chance of a new life together.
Woofs, Licks and Sniffs.....Otis and my new pack.
