Evesham Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue
A Fundraising Climb

Snowdon A great supporter of EGLR Caron Reeves is planning a fundraising walk up Mount Snowdon in June and we would like to wish her the best of luck and also like you to support her in her endevours. She will be supported on her walk with her rescue lurcher Slim who is with her in the photo here. We asked Caron about her walk and the reasons she is doing it to raise funds for EGLR and this is what she had to say:-

I will be walking up Mount Snowdon in Wales on Saturday 27th June this year to raise much needed funds for EGLR and I am looking for supporters to help me raise much needed funds.

I have done hill walking before, but no mountain walking, simply because I have a fear of heights. This will mean I will be presented with personal challenges along my route, but knowing I am raising funds for EGLR will keep me going. For all the folk who know and have walked up Snowdon I will be walking up the Pyg Track and coming down the Miner's Track.

Slim, our rescued Lurcher pictured in the photo with me will be participating in the fundraising from the comfort of the settee!. He is 12 years of age and likes the slower pace of life nowadays.

I live on the most northerly island on the Shetland Islands and must be the most Northerly supporter of EGLR in the UK.

I am also doing the fundraising walk up Mount Snowdon in memory of our Otis who we adopted from EGLR and brought up to Shetland to live with us all. Sadly Otis developed Osteosarcoma and had to have his front leg and shoulder amputated. He made a remarkable recovery as a Tripawd and lived life to to the full on his three legs. Sadly however the cancer returned, this time to his lungs and we had to make the extremely hard decision to let him go.

Please support me and help raise funds for EGLR so they can continue to look after Mr Moon, Eddie, Scarlet, Dixie to name just a few of the many hounds in their care and find their forever homes.

Thank you Caron for your support.

We need your help.

EddieTo all of our wonderful supporters we urgently need your help. We have a very very special dog called Eddie and this is his story:-

Eddie came to us in February, we noticed almost straight away that he had a strange way of walking and sitting, he could not walk far and was not able to play or run with his foster sister, even after a short walk he would drag his back legs. We took him to the vets and to cut a long story short, it was discovered he had ruptured cruciate ligaments in both legs. We put him on Catrophen injections but this did not seem to help, so the vet has suggested we do a procedure called a Tibial Tuberosity Advancement or TTA surgery. This operation will cost in the region of £3000 but will greatly improve his movement and allow him to run and play with his friends. Although we have had lots of people interested in rehoming Eddie , no-one would want to take on a dog that cannot walk properly. So we are appealing for your help, if all our followers donated just £1 we would have enough to book Eddie in to have this much needed operation.

Eddie deserves our help, it's only money that stands in the way of Eddie having a better more for filled life, and would become a rehomeable dog, how sad that money is so important and stands in the way of this boy living a better happier free from pain life, come on everyone work your magic, show Eddie the power of love and Facebook, We can achieve this together, but we need your help to do this, one pound will give Eddie new legs yep just one pound, we have nearly 9,000 Facebook followers can you imagine if everyone of these people ,donated one pound just how much money we would have, enough to help Eddie and many many more, come on people let's do it.

Love Pip

A fantastic achievement

WalkpicOne of our foster careers John Williams, to celebrate his 60th Birthday and to raise some much needed funds for us decided to walk 60 Kilometers with 60 dogs. John completed his walk with the help of 48 friends and family members and 67 dogs. He raised the fantastic sum of £2,250, this to be split between EGLR and Hounds for Heroes. A truly magnificent achievement that deserves a huge thank you from everyone within EGLR. John also managed to make the local press and to read a full report from the Worcester News, just Click Here

Some sad news

Unfortunately we have to start 2015 with some very sad news. As many of you may know Hartley, one of our sponsor dogs and long long term resident at Pips, has not been well since Boxing Day and sadly she has had to make the very difficult decision to allow him to pass over to rainbow bridge. As you can imagine Pip is completely heartbroken. Hartley was a very special dog that against all the odds lived an amazingly long life. He was such a strong personality in Pip's family of hounds and will be a great loss to them all. I know you will all send your love and thoughts to Pip at this difficult time.
